FRIENDS & FAMILY: SILENT ADDY
Silent Addy opens up about growing up between Kingston and Miami, the Caribbean sounds and nightlife culture that shaped his world, and the sneaker journey that started with a pair of Purple Pigeon SBs back in 2006. From dancehall to DJ booths, Coachella stages to late-night Miami parties, the episode explores how music, fashion and sneakers all move together in Addy’s universe.

How did your journey from Kingston to Miami shape you?
SA
I migrated from Jamaica when I was ten years old, and just being in the music from a young age, that's basically what kind of shaped my career to this day. You know?
FC
What's your approach to blending sounds and cultures?
SA
Growing up back and forth from Kingston to Miami, you know, growing up here, going to a lot of Caribbean parties in South Florida definitely shaped my song. Caribbean parties is a key thing in South Florida. Growing up here, it was just a bunch of genres hip hop, R&B, EDM, everything, you know. But then also still with the Caribbean, you know, sewing as well.
FC
When did sneakers first become a part of your story?
SA
SB is mostly that's what really got me into sneakers. Like 2006. I went to my skate shop on South Beach and got my first pair, which was these the purple pigeons. Still got them today, you know what I'm saying? Fresh.

FC
Why do you think people want to come to a Silent Addy party?
SA
For Bashment events like we definitely bring the authentic Jamaican vibes, but then also with like a Miami flair. American flair. You know, I have my brand Basement as well. A big part of that is merch with the music.
FC
How does Miami influence your style and sneaker choices?
SA
Growing up in Miami, definitely. I'm growing up in America, being around rappers and, you know, then seeing the Jamaican artists, how they dress and then just finding my own style through that. I think that's what helped me create my style today.
FC
What stage will you never forget and what sneakers did you wear?
SA
I played Coachella, one year I played the Heineken stage, and I was wearing Off-White Jordan ones, I think, at the time. Yeah. So legendary. Big up to Virgil.

FC
How much do sneakers influence the way you put together a fit for a night out?
SA
Sneakers and nightlife go hand in hand because my personal thing is always starting my outfit with my shoes. So the whole fit is going to be built off of whatever shoes I'm wearing that night. So it's a big part.
FC
What's your sneaker rotation like?
SA
My shoe rotation kind of changed up. It went from SB dunks, Jordans to more like Margiela Gats and Salomons, you know, definitely something that's more comfortable. I just got the Salomon Margiela collab and I've been wearing that every day.
FC
What city has an incredible Dance Hall scene?
SA
I mean, besides Miami, I would say one of my favorite places to DJ in the world is New York City. Definitely the vibes up there is always insane. But Toronto. London. Yeah, I always miss dancehall vibes. Toronto gals is all dimes.

FC
Best sneaker to DJ in?
SA
I would say the Salomons, because they're comfortable. I can be in them all day.
FC
Dancehall track of the year?
SA
Shake it to the max. Number one.
FC
Early set or late-night set?
SA
It really depends. I like both, you know, it depends on where I'm playing.
FC
Last sneaker you copped?
SA
The Salomon x Andrew collab. Definitely a great colorway, great silhouette and a great story behind it. So big up to Andrew.
